Carol Crossed, founder and president of the Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum weaves a narrative with text and images that are over 100 years old in her new book; Vintage Tweets: Suffrage Era Postcards!

To celebrate the birthday of Susan B. Anthony, born February 15, 1820, Carol will be presenting selections from her book, which chronicles the fight for the vote through thought-provoking, often amusing, and sometimes shocking illustrations and photos and short, pithy messages on complex domestic issues—marriage, childbirth, violence—and public and political topics: abolition, temperance and dress reform.

Author of Vintage Tweets: Suffrage Era Postcards

Carol began a career in human and civil rights activism while attending Howard University in the summer of 1965. She was trained as a facilitator and has been a leader in non-violent civil disobedience since the 1970s anti-Vietnam War movement. In the 1980s, she was a supporter of human rights for indigenous populations, particularly in South America. Carol was an editorial assistant for 15 years to the New York State Feminist, past editor of Voices for Peace and Life, and a contributor to Pro-Life Feminism: Yesterday and Today.

In 2006 Carol purchased and restored the birthplace of Susan B. Anthony in Adams, Massachusetts. Four years later, it opened as a historic house museum honoring the feminist foremother. To recognize the accomplishment, she received the Northern Berkshire Massachusetts Business and Professional Women Award. Today, she is president of Feminists Choosing Life of New York.
