Fall 2019

Second Annual Christmas Celebration

December 12th 2019

Students, fellows, and community members joined us for caroling, food and drink to celebrate another great semester at AAI!

The Great Conversation

How should we live? - A question that lies right at the core of human identity. Its ever elusive answer has been pursued, examined and fought over throughout various traditions for millennia. The Great Conversation explores the most serious answers put forward through a weekly reading group covering a rich variety of foundational texts.

The Immateriality of the Mind: Dr. Edward Feser Lecture

“As an undergraduate concentrating in Philosophy I really valued and enjoyed Dr. Ed Feser’s lecture. His discussion of the immateriality of the mind was clear, and I came away from the talk with many further questions that I am excited to keep exploring! I’m so glad that AAI helps support my studies in Philosophy at Harvard.”

— Gabrielle Landry ‘22

The Death of Liberalism: Matthew Schmitz of First Things

In collaboration with the John Adams Society, a debating society that we sponsor at Harvard, we hosted Matthew Schmitz of First Things magazine to discuss the changes and damages to liberalism in today’s society and political context. This talk was well attended with a lively and informative Q&A session afterwards.

Annual Lecture: The Idol of Our Age with Dr. Daniel J. Mahoney

“Professor Mahoney’s lecture provided a call to action we all must heed: to re-examine our Christian faith and devotion to God, and to understand how sectors of modern society follows a distinctly separate religious faith — that of humanitarianism and devotion to humanity. To whom are we devoted?”

— Mathieu Ronayne, Boston College ’21
