2023 John Aroutiounian Fellows


Given each year to academically and interpersonally outstanding students at Harvard or colleges and universities in the greater Boston area, the John Aroutiounian Fellowship recognizes young men and women of exceptional talent and high motivation who have demonstrated ability in building peer and intergenerational communities of intellectual and moral virtue.


Shani Agarwal, HDS ‘23

Shani Agarwal earned her A.B. in Classics from Bowdoin College in 2020, where she also minored in Film Studies. She received a fellowship to earn her M.T.S. from Harvard University in 2023, focusing on Medieval Religion & the Arts. Between her undergraduate studies and her time at Harvard, she worked as a teaching assistant at a Catholic school in Maine and held a position with the Classic Planning Institute. At Harvard, she was also a Teaching Fellow in the History of Art & Architecture department. Currently, besides her fellowship with the Abigail Adams Institute, she works as the Program Director for the Harvard Catholic Forum. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, reading, traveling, and antiquing.


ALexander Hughes ‘25

Alex Hughes ('25) of Marshall, Michigan concentrates in Government at Harvard College. He is interested in defense policy and the political theory of republican citizenship. He is the editor-in-chief of the Salient, Harvard's student-run conservative magazine, which works to promote open debate and intellectual rigor on campus. He is also the president emeritus of the Harvard Republican Club.


Fred Larsen ‘24

Fred Larsen is a student at Harvard College '24 from Chapel Hill, North Carolina studying political philosophy. He is interested in attempts to rejuvenate the spirit of classical political thought, with special attention to Plato and Rousseau. He is also a regularly performing trombonist, and is interested in the connection between music and politics. He is an active member of the John Adams Society and performs music for the Hasty Pudding and the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra.
